Psychotherapy overview
Psychotherapy provides a place to create happier and healthier relationships with yourself and those people around you that you consider important.
Through the psychotherapy I offer you I will provide a safe space to understand yourself better and where you can feel more confident and empowered in the choices you make.
The way I work, is that we pay attention to what is going on in the world and how this affects your intersectional identity and your presenting needs. I work this way as the therapy room and what you are bringing is a microcosm of what is happening in the world. As a intercultural/transcultural therapist I also notice how the diversity between us and how it effects on our therapy relationship. I offer sessions via Zoom and can work in person in my consulting room based in East Finchley.
How I work:
Today I describe myself as a Relational Body and Trauma Psychotherapist. I use a mixture of models depending on works for you and what you are brining. I like to work creatively with you integrating body work, creative writing, mindfulness, and art materials - it really depends on what works for you. My core models are:
Intercultural/Transcultural
The approach considers the whole being of the client and also the client’s cultural life experience in the world both past and present.
Psychodynamic
This approach stresses the importance of the unconscious past and present experience that may be shaping current behaviour.
Body Psychotherapy
This is a relational approach pays attention to how your mind, body and soul relate to each other, and how this affects your relationship with yourself and others.
Trauma
This approach will support you in overcoming psychological trauma. A key definition I’ve taken from the Oxford Dictionary of Psychology reads, “Trauma: A physical injury or wound, or a powerful psychological shock that has damaging effects” (2009). If you can cope with the trauma event or situation, even it is a severe threat, it isn’t trauma.
As of August 2022: I do not deal with criminal, custodial or judicial matters; there are therapists that specialise in these areas.
Initial query and meeting
I will aim to respond within 48 hours and offer you a free 20-minute telephone or zoom introduction meeting as I believe that the relationship is the key to building successful outcome. If you would like to book an initial session with me, I offer this at a flat fee £65 and this session usually lasts an hour.
Within this session you will explore if this is the right time for you to start therapy and this is where you can decide if I am the right therapist for you. In most cases I start with two initial sessions before we begin our therapy work together.
From January 2024
Depending on what you are bringing we may need two initial sessions together before entering a therapy contract and therapy relationship together. Whether working short-term or long-term I begin with six weekly sessions and then we review what you need from there - we may extend for another six sessions and then agree from there what is needed. It can take time to develop trust in any relationship, and for me to develop a clear understanding your presenting needs and how I can best support you. I charge a flat rate of £65 per session. My concession spaces are all full, but I can offer some flexibility where needed.
